It’s been excruciating hot the last week so when I’m not wearing a light dress or skirt, I’m in shorts! The high temps also call for loose and light tops – which I don’t have a lot of. I was at Kmart last week (a rare occasion!) and this top was on clearance. I love the fringe and definitely don’t own anything like it, so I took it home with me. It’s definitely a different look for me – my husband was NOT a fan of the shirt – but I love the thin fabric and loose fit.

Hiiiiii! So an update if you don’t follow me on Facebook! Two weekends ago, my camera (a Sony a33) flashed a “Camera Error” message when turned on and then wouldn’t turn on at all. We’re not sure what happened and my husband tried to fix it, but with no success! I’m hoping my brother is going to be able to help me fix it, but I’m not feeling to hopeful. What am I going to do? I’ve tried to go the iPhone photo route, but the problem with that is that I can’t take the pictures myself. Trying to coordinate a photographer and the perfect lighting for cell phone pictures is hard!

So I’m back quickly with a few pictures from my phone/Instagram! I’ll post as I can for now. In the meantime, follow me on Instagram or twitter @mydressyways for photo updates!

Wearing:

I wore this outfit to work the day we went to watch The Lion King on broadway. I waited a LONG time to see the show. My kids have seen the movie so many times they have it memorized so I knew when it came to town that we all had to go.

The show was nothing short of amazing. The costumes were beyond belief and the performances were stellar. My son was on the edge of his seat with excitement. My eyes darted back and forth between the stage and my kids to see the awe on their faces at seeing their favorite movie brought to life. It was an amazing experience and one that won’t be forgotten by my kids!

I feel like I should go to a barbecue in this outfit! Maybe minus the white pants since I’d end up dropping a glob of ketchup on them. My husband also has a blue gingham shirt like this one and when I wore mine, my son asked me if I was wearing “daddy’s shirt”. Those little kids never miss a thing, I tell ya!

The day I wore this dress, my husband said, “Wow. You’re glowing.” Pretty sure he wasn’t referring to my 30 year old complexion. Yes, this dress is bright – I think even more so in person than in these photos. But I’ve never had a maxi dress that flowed and billowed the way this one does. It’s also challenging to sit in since the fabric glides everywhere. I had to somewhat scoop it up in my hands each time I sat down to make sure I wouldn’t roll over it with my desk chair. Maybe not so practical at work.

I’ve had this dress for a few weeks and just couldn’t figure out to cover up the spaghetti straps for work. I knew a cardigan or blazer of some sort was needed, but just wasn’t sure of what color to pair with it. This mustardy-olive cardigan proved the best. It mutes the bright pink nicely. It’s all about balance!

Happy Friday! Another work week has come and gone and tons of to-dos have been crossed off my list. My daughter’s birthday is coming together nicely so I’m ready to have everyone over to enjoy some food, pool and sun! Hope you have a great long weekend!

This is the perfect night out outfit. The white blazer takes the dress from sweet to chic and the gold strappy sandals add some sass.

This is the sweetest dress ever! I’m so grateful that Sincerely Sweet sent this over to me. The material of the dress doesn’t wrinkle easily and it’s lined underneath which is a huge deal. Most dresses I find these days aren’t lined but incredibly sheer. I love the pleats, the bib and the contrast of the black buttons and ribbon against the mocha color.

These are some of my favorite pieces from Sincerely Sweet Boutique. Everything is girly, romantic and absolutely affordable.

I love the lace detail on the shorts! The lace coral pleated dress – WHAT? And the white blouse with the embellished collar – I NEED it. I really, really need it. My clearance outfit! I bought this dress at the end of the season last summer for under $15. The shoes are from the Fall 2011 Mad Men for Banana Republic collection – which I bought on clearance for $35. I picked up this cardigan from Target last week from the clearance rack and used a $3 coupon to get it for a whopping $4 and some change. I’ve mentioned it before, but in case you missed it, Target often has coupons for apparel on their website!

Why hello! Last week was a series of missed photos for various reasons on top of my life just getting a bit busy! So yes, I was a little MIA but I’m back today! This week and the next promise to be even busier but I will do my best to get those outfit posts up!

My daughter’s 7th birthday is next week and we are celebrating as we have the last few years with a party by the pool this weekend. Poor girl. We (she) debated for months whether it’d be a Build-A-Bear party or Glam Girl party (fancy hair and dress up at a local boutique). She has always had a party at the neighborhood pool because it’s the big pool kickoff for the summer! She wanted so badly to take is somewhere else this year. I thought that’s what we would be doing, but at the last-minute, she decided to have it at the pool again. (She tried to convince me that we could do ALL THREE aforementioned activities. Yeah, no.) I told her we could still have ALL her friends over during the summer to swim and that we could have her party somewhere else, but she loves the pool so much and knows her friends do as well, that she’s sticking to tradition!

My sister is pregnant with her first baby – a GIRL!!!! and we’re throwing her shower next week as well. I’m super excited since this is the first of my sisters to get pregnant!

So I make no promises but do hope you’ll bear with me this month!

Wow. What a difference a little photo editing can do! Yesterday was perfectly drizzly and gray when I took these pictures. I’m a novice when it comes to photo editing so I was thinking I’d never be able to save these pictures! Just a few little tweaks to color and wah-la. It looks like the sun was actually out! Rainy Mondays are the worst!

I love these colors together – the bright pink and cobalt hues are bright but toned down with the white blazer on top. It’s easy to wear basic pieces like these in black, gray or white – why not try it with color?
